Quick Cheese Grits  

Sometimes grits just hit the spot. If not serving immediately, reheat and add milk to make creamy if needed. Adjust salt to decrease sodium, if desired. From the Neutropenia Chapter.

 









Ingredients

4 cups water
1 cup skim milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups quick grits
3 tablespoons margarine
3 cups shredded reduced fat Cheddar cheese
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

In a saucepan, bring the water, milk and salt to a boil.  Add grits, reduce heat, and cook about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.  Add margarine, cheese, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder.  Stir until margarine and cheese melts.

Makes 10 to 12 servings.
